This October is Support Soul Dancers month! All month, we’re asking you to get creative and host a fundraiser (or two) to support Soul Dancers charity in Medellin, Colombia.
Soul Dancers is a charity created by Limelight’s president after he visited the city and saw how poverty was affecting the youth. Medellin, Colombia is where our president established Limelight’s manufacturing factory and therefore, he wanted to give back to the surrounding community. Understanding the power of dance, he wanted to give back to the youth in Medellin by providing them with dance lessons, English lessons, and meals to help them in any way he could. Since its beginning, Soul Dancers now helps countless youth in Medellin, giving them confidence, joy and a positive outlet to express themselves. There have been countless heart-warming stories about how Soul Dancers has truly changed the lives of so many individuals in Medellin.
Limelight Teamwear currently donates 1% of all sales directly to Soul Dancers. We also host an annual fundraiser on Halloween where we take donations to Soul Dancers in exchange for pictures with Pennywise the clown from the movie IT. This movie was filmed in the town where our headquarters is located and a part of our office was actually in the film! We have a great turn out every year as people love to get dressed up and dare to get close to Pennywise.
We want to encourage you to get in the Halloween spirit this October and create a fundraiser at your studio or club and raise money for Soul Dancers! There are so many different ways to get all of your students involved and raise money for a great cause. To give you some inspiration, here are some fun ideas to raise money this October:
Bake Sale
A classic fundraising option! Groups of your students can come together and have a baking party to cook up some delicious goodies to sell to parents and other members of the community. You can make an entire day of it! Have everyone dress up in Halloween costumes and come for a day of Halloween fun. Not only can you sell the baked goods, but also run a 50/50 raffle and other fun games that have a low entry fee.
Bonfire
A perfect way to get everyone in the fall mood. Host a bonfire if you have access to a space to do so. You can either charge an entry fee or have open donations going the entire night. You can host fun games, tell scary stories, roast marshmallows and make s’mores! If you host this near Halloween, you can even host a costume contest.
Fall Fair
Host a mini fall fair! This can be done at your studio or club. Have fun activities such as bobbing for apples, pumpkin carving, a hot-chocolate station and more! Get creative and get your students involved. To raise money, you can charge an entrance fee, or charge a fee to participate in activities. You can even have a theme for the fair and have everyone dress for the theme to add a little fun!
These are just a few fun fall fundraising ideas that you and your entire team can host to raise money for Soul Dancers! Any donation is greatly appreciated. Every dollar pays for a student to participate in a dance class. So if you raise even twenty dollars, that’s enough for twenty children to participate in a dance class, or for one child to take twenty classes. We appreciate any efforts made for Soul Dancers and cannot wait to see what you come up with!
